Religion Classes

In 2013 Mr. Ascioti was named Director of Faith Formation for St. Jude the Apostle School. He is certified as a Catechist through the Albany Diocese and is entering into his second year at the Kateri Institute for Faith Formation. Mr. Ascioti teaches Religion for grades 3-6 and has created an in-depth curriculum which will help students through their journey of faith. Mr. Ascioti also serves as the Director of the church’s RCIA program, a board member for the Friends of Fontaine, school representative on the Respect Life committee, and a member of the Parish Vocations committee.

The 3rd Grade Religion Curriculum will focus on Using the Bible, (how it is set up, the Books, how to find scripture) Sacraments, Prayer, Understanding the Liturgical Calendar, and answer the question: “Why do we do that in church?”

Students will also begin to learn how to participate in the Mass. A letter will be sent home regarding Server training, that will be done by myself and Fr. Anthony. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in Monday morning Masses as lectors and gift bearers. I encourage all students to participate throughout the year as this is a safe and nurturing environment for them to try. 3rd Grade students will begin participating in Monday morning Mass in December.

The 4th Grade Religion Curriculum will focus on such issues as, Behavior, Respect for Life, Sin, Forgiveness, Prayer, and Social Justice. The foundation for all these issues will be the Ten Commandments. We will discuss how these issues relate to the Commandments and Scripture, as well as the greatest Commandment “love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind", and "love your neighbor as yourself”.

The 5th Grade Religion Curriculum is an in depth study of the Seven Sacraments of the Catholic Church. Students will increase their understanding of the Sacraments by studying scripture, walking through the Sacraments with myself and Fr. Anthony, see up-close the items used, and discuss the history of each sacrament.

The 6th Grade Religion Curriculum is a study of the Prophets of the Old Testament. Before studying the Prophets, students will gain an understanding of the preceding people and history.

The year will begin with a look at passages from the Book of Genesis, then moving onto the life of Moses in the Book of Exodus, the Book of Joshua, Book of Judges, Samuel, and finally First Kings. After the historical foundation the students will explore the lives of the Prophets (major and minor) in chronological order.
